The department was started in the year 1962 with Dr. (Prof) M. Quadros as the first HOD.

DESCRIPTION

The building structure is well ventilated. The department has indoor ward and labour room, routine OT, seminar room, tutorial room, pathology, USG room, music room and EMOC training room.

EMERGENCY MEDICINE AND OBSTETRIC CARE TRAINING (EMOC)

This programme comes under the National Rural Health mission (NRHM) initiated by the government of India. At RIMS, currently the obstetrics and gynecology department, the anesthesia department and the pediatrics department impart EMOC training. The participants here are given lectures and hands on training in the operation theatres. A number of seminars are conducted for them. The whole programme is funded by the Federation of obstetrics and gynecological society of India (FOGSI) and the State Government.

STATISTICS

OPD Attendance (2015) – 38,211

OPD-

one Works 6 days a week from 8:00 AM to 01:00PM and from 03:00PM to 05:00 PM
one Ultrasonography, PAP smear, ANC & PNC check-up are available. On an average 150 patients attend the OPD everyday.

WARD/INDOOR

one Ward is located on the fourth floor of the hospital building & can be reached easily through lifts.

one It is equipped with 162 beds, distributed among 6 units, & 9 labour tables.

one Patients are attended to by nurses 24x7 and by doctors during their rounds.

FUTURE PLANS

To increase number of beds and colonoscopy to be started in OPD.
